Things to know about Mount Lougheed

From Canmore Bow River Bridge, take the Smith Dorrien Trail for about 24.4 km. When you get to a creek called Spencer Creek (there is no sign, unfortunately) make a U-turn and park on the side of the road, by the drainage.

This hike is super fun one of the best in Kananaskis. Yes there is a lot of elevation gain 1544m but you will not feel it! It goes pretty fast and the trail is pretty straigh forward and in great conditions.

Get ready the trail could be a little confusing, there is a lot of trails and animal trails in this area. Make sure to not take the trail to Little Lougheed trail or High of the Rockies as it is a different one.  I strongly suggest you download the app : Maps.Me for your phone it is awesome and helped us get to the top without problems.

We did this hike on May 28th 2018 and the trail was dry we only saw 2 little snow patches. It took us 4h15 minutes, 2h to go up. There is a possibility to make that hike a loop if you do the mountain traverse this is around 20 km round trip. I recommend to check Jamie Junker blog to find more info about this adventure.
