Things to know about Goat Creek

Great trail for cross-country skiing in the winter and trail running in the summer.

You have different options to start this trail. At the Goat Creek parking lot just after the town of Canmore or in Banff at the end of the Banff Springs Hotel parking lot.

This trail is not a loop so you have the choice to do it one way (18.75km) I recommand if you do that to start on the Goat Creek parking lot and finish in Banff. You can take the bus back in Canmore or drop a car.  The trail from Canmore to Banff has an elevation loss of 451m so it  is way easier that way than the other. It took 1h20min to ski from Canmore to Banff and 2h05 to ski back from Banff to Canmore...

The first 8 km from the Goat Creek side is not the best grooming ever so it may be more difficult.

The trail is well signed so it would be really hard to get lost. Also, I recommended to classic ski as there is not a groomed skate track and it will be pretty awkward as you will be skiing on the classic ski trails.

I recommend you check the grooming conditions on Parks Canada before heading out!
